Impact of chronic low back pain on healthcare professionals’ work-life

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is quite possibly the most distinctive reason for musculoskeletal issues. It is an overlooked medical condition, which is causing genuine affliction and incapacity among healthcare professionals. This article aimed to explore the extent of LBP and its impact on the work-life of healthcare professionals.

Methodology: A precise literature search has been done on PubMed, and Google Scholar using the key terms prevalence, Low back pain, and Nurses.

Results: Studies observed showed a significant number of nurses and other healthcare workers suffered from LBP globally. It is observed that the occurrence rate of LBP in a year was 50%, while in >30 days was observed to be 27.4% and daily was 16.6%. While the most effective site of pain observed in LBP was legs and hind quarts, restricted to low back (59.3%).

Conclusion: The prevalence of low back pain is high in developing country like Pakistan. Among medical health care providers, nurses are the one most effected with LBP. Their physical as well as professional life severely get effected due to the miss management of LBP. Therefore, more research is needed to be conducted, along with public awareness sessions.
